Wedding makeup prep for sensitive skin: How to calm, hydrate & glow with every&one

Content supplied by Lucy, every&one ambassador with first-hand experience of managing sensitive and eczema-prone skin in prep for her wedding makeup.

Planning a wedding is one of those things that's equally exciting and overwhelming all at once.

When I got engaged two years ago, I promised myself I was going to enjoy the experience. It's a pretty short season in someone's life, and my fiancé and I were keen to take our time and enjoy the planning rather than rush through it.

Fast forward two years, and my wedding is round the corner. I'd be lying if I said I've completely kept that promise. Stress just happens to be an unavoidable side effect of planning something as big and important as a wedding.

And as we know from my last blog, stress and my skin don't tend to mix well.

So I won't pretend I haven't been worried about how my wedding makeup is going to look when I'm wearing it for hours on end, especially with sensitive skin.

But here's what I've learned. The secret to wedding makeup that actually lasts isn't about the makeup itself. It's about the hydration base underneath. That's what gives you the glowing skin every bride wants. (Thanks to Jo Leversuch's top tips - see how she uses every&one with her brush!)

The real secret to wedding makeup that lasts all day

Here's the thing. There's an inordinate amount of pressure on brides to look perfect and have that famous bridal glow.

Suddenly, everyone has advice. Monthly facials, exfoliating acids, sheet masks, treatments you've never heard of, skincare routines that somehow involve 12 different steps.

If you're anything like me, and especially if you're managing sensitive skin at the same time, it can all feel overwhelming.

But what I've realised is this. Wedding makeup doesn't fail because of the makeup. It fails because the skin underneath isn't properly hydrated.

I know I won't be the only person feeling this way. So I wanted to share a few things I'm doing to make sure my wedding makeup sits beautifully all day. And how a simple hydration-first approach makes all the difference.

Makeup prep for sensitive skin: creating a calm wedding makeup base

If you have sensitive skin, your goal for wedding makeup doesn't need to be perfect skin. It's simply skin that feels calm, hydrated and comfortable underneath. Finding every&one has been a game changer for my eczema and sensitive skin. It's given me the confidence I need as I build up to my wedding.

And honestly? That alone makes a huge difference to how your wedding makeup sits. And more importantly, how you feel wearing it.

Why consistency matters more than chasing the perfect wedding makeup look

I'll be honest. As my wedding gets closer, I've definitely had moments where I've been tempted to panic-buy an entirely new skincare routine.

You know the feeling. You see phrases like glass skin, bridal glow or skin reset and suddenly wonder if everyone else knows something you don't.

But after years of managing sensitive skin, I've learned that my skin prefers consistency over perfection.

And if your skin is reactive, introducing lots of new products in the weeks before your wedding can do more harm than good to your wedding makeup base.

The truth is there's no magic product that transforms your skin overnight. Especially if your skin barrier is already feeling stressed.

Instead of overcomplicating things, I've been focusing on sticking to what I know works. Keeping my skin hydrated, supporting my barrier and resisting the urge to constantly fix it.

Sometimes, the best wedding makeup prep is simply not overwhelming your skin.

Managing flare-ups before your wedding day

If stress triggers eczema or irritation for you, you're definitely not alone.

Between seating plans, budgets, timelines and the endless mental to-do list, wedding planning comes with plenty of emotional highs and stress inevitably sneaks in.

And because our skin and nervous systems are more connected than we often realise, stress can sometimes lead to dryness, itching, redness or flare-ups. The last thing you want before your wedding.

I've learned that when my skin feels unsettled, the worst thing I can do is throw lots of active ingredients at it.

Instead, I simplify.

For me, that looks like:

- Focusing on hydration

- Protecting my skin barrier

- Giving my skin consistency rather than constantly changing direction

- Lowering expectations slightly

If you have sensitive skin, there may be days where things feel more reactive than others. And that's okay.

Your skin doesn't have to be flawless for your wedding makeup to look beautiful.

My 5-step wedding makeup prep routine for hydration and glowing skin

One thing I've realised while thinking about my own wedding makeup is that a good base doesn't need to be complicated.

As someone with sensitive skin, my version of wedding makeup prep is less about layering lots of products. It's more about making sure my skin feels so hydrated that it becomes the perfect base for makeup. Here's my 5-step plan for wedding day makeup prep:

1. Build hydration 12 weeks before your wedding day

For my wedding makeup prep, I am prioritising hydration above everything else.

Twelve weeks will give my skin time to adjust to a simple routine and build up a reserve of moisture. This becomes the foundation for everything. Including how well your wedding makeup sits and how that glowing skin looks on the day.

2. Choose a hydrating primer that's also skincare

This is where every&one has changed my wedding makeup game.

Rather than using a separate primer, I use every&one as my hydrating base. It moisturises my skin while creating a smooth, hydrated surface for makeup to sit on.

Ingredients like squalane and Vitamin F help support the skin barrier and lock in moisture. Coco-caprylate gives skin that soft, smooth feeling that works beautifully as a wedding makeup primer.

The beauty is it's doing double duty. Hydrating my skin barrier and prepping it for makeup as a primer.

3. Avoid introducing new products close to your wedding

This is huge for wedding makeup success. I'm not testing new skincare, new makeup or new primers in the month before my wedding in September.

My skin needs to feel familiar and trusted going into my big day. If every&one works for me now, it will work for me on my wedding day.

4. Protect your sleep

It's no secret that sleep is one of the best things we can do for our skin and general health. And for wedding makeup longevity.

I've learned that when my sleep suffers, I see it in my skin almost immediately. And when my skin isn't hydrated, I know my wedding makeup won't last.

I try to stick to a routine that helps me wind down.

  • Reading before bed
  • Limiting screen time
  • Giving myself space and time to switch off

Better sleep equals better hydration equals better wedding makeup wear. It's that simple.

5. Focus on hydration, not perfection

Rather than trying to completely transform how you look for your wedding, focus on hydrated skin that feels comfortable. Let your makeup sit beautifully.

The best wedding makeup base is skin that feels hydrated, calm and like itself. Skin that glows naturally.

My wedding morning routine for the perfect hydrated base

When it comes to the actual morning of my wedding, my plan is surprisingly simple.

Just a calm routine I know my skin responds well to. One that creates the ideal hydrated base for my wedding makeup.

A gentle cleanse, hydration and my trusted every&one cream to help create a comfortable base for makeup.

I apply every&one to damp skin to lock in hydration. The 5-in-1 formula works as my moisturiser and primer to create the perfect base for my makeup in one step. I also use it on dry patches across my body and arms. By the time I sit down for makeup, my skin will be properly hydrated and ready for it to sit beautifully and last all day.

One of my best friends, who happens to be one of my bridesmaids, is doing my makeup on the day. I found the process of finding a makeup artist stressful, so I decided to go with someone who knows me. Someone who will make sure I look like myself, just a little more polished and well-rested.

And honestly? That feels really comforting.

I think when you have sensitive skin, less can sometimes be more. Rather than trying to completely transform how you look, focus on wedding makeup that feels comfortable, lasts well and still feels like you.

And the secret? It all starts with proper hydration underneath.

Wedding makeup doesn't have to be complicated

If you're planning a wedding and navigating sensitive skin at the same time, try not to put too much pressure on yourself to achieve "perfect" skin. I know that this is easier said than done. Wedding planning is stressful enough already.

Your skin doesn't need to be flawless. You don't need a complicated routine or a shelf full of products.

I think glowing skin has very little to do with skincare routines or perfect makeup and that real glowing skin comes from being surrounded by the people who love you most. From feeling relaxed enough to be present. From laughing, crying, dancing and soaking in moments you'll remember forever.

Of course I want my wedding makeup to look good on the day, especially as someone with sensitive skin, but it's also important to remind yourself that feeling comfortable, confident and yourself matters far more than perfection ever could.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is every&one suitable for sensitive or eczema-prone skin?

Absolutely. every&one is gentle enough for daily use, even during stressful periods. That said, everyone's skin is different. If your skin is particularly reactive, we always recommend patch testing. If you're managing eczema with prescribed treatments, keep using them as your doctor advises.

Can one product really replace multiple skincare products?

Yes. A multi-tasking product like every&one can hydrate, calm and prepare your skin in one simple step. Which is especially helpful when wedding stress makes complicated routines feel impossible. Shop every&one now to simplify your routine.

Is fragrance-free skincare really necessary for wedding prep?

Yes. Stressed skin is more reactive, so fragrance-free products help prevent irritation and flare-ups. The last thing you need before your wedding is a surprise reaction.

What should I do if I have a flare-up close to my wedding day?

Simplify immediately. Strip things back to basics: gentle cleanse, hydrate with every&one and nothing else. Support your skin barrier rather than trying to fix it. If your skin is particularly reactive, consult a healthcare professional.

When should I start preparing my skin for my wedding?

We'd recommend starting 12 weeks (3 months) before your big day. This gives your skin time to adjust to your routine and for any flare-ups to settle before the event. But the sooner you start focusing on consistency, the better.

Can I use active ingredients before my wedding?

We'd recommend avoiding introducing new active ingredients (like acids, retinoids or vitamin C serums) in the month before your wedding. If you're already using them and your skin loves them, keep going. But this isn't the time to experiment.
